We will accept photography entries through Feb. 29, announcing the winner when we publish the issue on March 15. Photography submissions did not open until very late in 2011 so we want to extend the chance for everyone to submit.

2012 Theme: Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender
What does it mean to be "LGBT"? We seek short stories of
fiction that either include LGBT characters/elements or are
written by LGBT authors. We're looking for an honest
representation of the joys, challenges, triumphs, and
desires of the LGBT population. We implore you to show us
something we've never seen before.
Additionally, we are seeking exceptional photography that
captures the LGBT spirit. You may submit up to three
photographs per entry. Photography and fiction submissions
are separate.

2011 Raymond Carver Short Story
Contest
Announcing the winners of
the 2011 Raymond Carver Short Story Contest. This year we
had 541 entries, 28 semifinalists (longlist), and 9
finalists (shortlist). The show of talent this year was
incredible - so much so that we've decided to publish all
nine finalists: the five prizewinners and four honorable

The top
five winning stories/authors will be considered for representation
with the following literary agencies: Irene Goodman Literary
Agency, Steinberg Agency, Friedrich Agency.
Agents
will receive the stories before publication and, if
interested, will get in touch with authors to represent
them. All three agencies have shown interest in representing
past contributors to Carve, which is why they were selected
and invited to offer their services as part of the prize
package.

Guest Judge: Julie Hersh
Julie Hersh is the author of Struck by Living, already in its second printing after
publication in April 2010. She has been awarded the Mental
Health American Ruth Altschuler Community Advocate Prism
Award and selected as one of the 2010 Distinguished Women by
Northwood University, and she is an outspoken advocate for
